Cold In-Place Recycling

Cold in-place recycling (CIR) produces a rehabilitated asphalt pavement free of surface irregularities and ruts. CIR improves pavement profile and ride quality, and 100 percent of the reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) is recycled resulting in economic and environmental advantages.

Performed at the road site, cold in-place recycling uses many pieces of equipment (tanker trucks, milling machines, crushing/screening units, mixers, pavers and rollers). The treatment depth is two to six inches (50 to 150 millimeters) depending on the original pavement depth and design criteria.
