CONTEXT
In 2006, John Frieda took its pioneering reputation in hair care to a whole new level. It introduced Luminous Color Glaze – an entirely new type of hair coloring product, a blend of mild dyes and special ingredients to help colored hair shine.
CHALLENGE
Since packaging is a primary touch point for hair coloring, and John Frieda needed to signal a shift, the company wanted a packaging solution that truly shined on the shelf.
SOLUTION
John Frieda turned to MWV. Together, we developed and tested a series of designs, exploring a number of ways to signal the product innovation through the packaging.
The final solution was a dramatic design, formed into a clear plastic cat-eye-shaped cylinder using our Klearfold® product line. Once printed, we finished the packaging with custom injection-molded end caps.
RESULT
The dynamic design turns heads, projecting the style, luster and sophistication that the product and brand stand for. Plus our secondary package fits perfectly with the John Frieda-designed primary packaging inside. Together, they create a finished look on the shelf.
Once launched, the packaging gave the new product and category instant credibility in stores. It has quickly expanded the market, gaining prime shelf space everywhere.
