Fatty Acid and Rosin Production
The heart of our DeRidder, LA plant operations is the tall oil refinery – a vacuum distillation process that uses tall oil (the sap from pine trees, a byproduct from the papermaking process) as a raw material that is fractionated into fatty acid and rosin. The fatty acids are sold to other companies for use in the manufacture of plastics, soaps and detergents, metal working compounds, fabric softeners, epoxy coatings, paints, drilling mud and textile processing. All of the rosin manufactured at the DeRidder plant is converted into ink resins, paper size or rubber emulsifiers. These resins go into many of the printed materials found in homes around the world – from glossy magazines and catalogues to gift wrap.
Responsible Care
The DeRidder, LA facility has a longstanding commitment to safety and the environment. Since acquiring the plant, millions of dollars have been invested to reduce its environmental impact. The plant sponsors a committee to manage a Proactive Pollution Prevention Program, which focuses attention on continuously reducing the plant's impact on the environment, the employees and the community.
DeRidder employees strive to have an accident-free plant. Two major committees work to prevent accidents by providing a safe work environment and training for all employees on how to safely perform their jobs.
Our DeRidder facility and its employees contribute to the community through involvement in many civic, community and charitable programs including the United Way, Red Cross blood drives, partnering with local schools, Chamber of Commerce, youth sports leagues, Beauregard Community Action, Louisiana Chemical Association and more.
